The Living Campaign

The exciting world of Alpha Omega can be played with your regular gaming group, but you can also meet new friends and experience new adventures by joining our official managed campaign, Alpha Omega: Evolutions! Playing in a managed campaign is just like playing with your friends. You create a character and bring it to public events such as conventions where Alpha Omega: Evolutions events are being offered. Everything that you do and everything that your character is awarded is carried over from one adventure to the next. You get the opportunity to play with different players and their characters, being challenged along the way.

Ho do I get involved in Alpha Omega: Evolutions?

First, you will need to get a copy of the Alpha Omega Core Rulebook and generate a character. You are free to use any other official published Alpha Omega rulebooks and supplements as well, but no fan-created material. Generate your character using the standard 500-point system. Keep in mind that we do not use any Optional Rules, and any Advanced Rules may not be used in the interests of time or manageability. If you do use any equipment or rules outside of the Core Rulebook, you must bring that book or supplement to the event with you—do not depend on the Game Moderator to have anything other than the core rules.

Now that you have your character created, you’ll need to find an event! Our official demonstration team, the Wardens, often run events at local gaming stores, clubs, and conventions. Other Game Moderators may also run events at conventions as well. Once you find an event, you may need to register in order to guarantee a seat. Finally, show up and play the event! You can find events sponsored by Mind Storm Labs and the Wardens in the Upcoming Events listing on this page and on the Player’s Forums.

Where does the campaign take place?

The Alpha Omega: Evolutions campaign takes place in and around the walled metropolis of New York. You can find out more information about the campaign area, organizations, and other useful information on the NWSEC Wiki.

Where do I get a copy of the Campaign Rules?

You’re looking at them! As long as you are using officially published Alpha Omega game products, and you are not using any Optional Rules, it is allowed. There are no special rules or limitations on abilities, powers, drawbacks, or gear. Keep in mind, however, that if you choose Banished from New York, you’re going to find it very difficult to play in the campaign.

Where do I download the log sheets?

Log sheets? You must have Alpha Omega confused with some other game! We don’t use any log sheets, calendars, or other bookkeeping methods—all you need is a character sheet. While we’d love you to use our own Alpha Omega Character Sheets, you’re free to use anything you’d like, as long as it is readable by the Game Moderator!

How do I improve my character and buy stuff between adventures?

Your Game Moderator will award your character an amount of Character Development Points, as well as compensation in the form of Trust, associates, gear, favors, or other intangible rewards. You can then use the published rules for Character Advancement to improve your character or buy equipment, including weapons, cyberware, vehicles, or anything else you can afford.

Keep in mind that a Game Moderator has the right to restrict certain gear when running an adventure due to game balance and to make sure everyone has an enjoyable time. They may also restrict the use of items they feel a character should not have. For example, if you have only been playing a couple of adventures and declare that you’ve saved enough money for a Kestral cargo shuttle, outfitted with a chain gun, missile launchers, and a mobile command center, the Game Moderator is probably going to ask that you not use that during the game. If you continue to press the matter, don’t be surprised if the shuttle is accidentally destroyed by a Flamestrider while your team is out and about.

In other words, we are not going to babysit you and force extra bookkeeping to track when or how you received certain items (although we encourage you to track it yourself by keeping a record of the adventures you’ve played and the rewards you received). The Game Moderator at each event has the final say on any equipment or abilities that can be used during an adventure.

How do I build a custom widget?

If there is guidance in the various published rules or supplements, use that information for completing your project. If not, try to find a similar item and just use the cost of the item to represent the material cost and time spent building the item, plus a little extra for any additional features you wish to add. For instance, if you want a weapon similar to the Misca Annihilator, but want to add some feature from another weapon, take the Misca’s starting price, then determine how much the additional feature changes the weapon, usually 10–25%. At your next event, present your proposal to the Game Moderator. Depending on the item, the Game Moderator may also require a Skill Check against an appropriate Difficulty Rating, or may require that you have access to certain associates or resources before you will be able to create the item. Please remember that events are usually scheduled to run in a set amount of time, so don’t bog down the game and ruin things for the rest of the players by stealing the Game Moderator’s attention. As always, the Game Moderator has final say over any items.

How can I get adventures to run at my local convention?

Adventures are usually written to debut at special events by the Wardens. The Warden program then has the honor of running those adventures at other conventions or events for a period of no less than four months. After this period, convention organizers can request adventures for local Game Moderators to run at their convention. How can I get adventures to run for my gaming group?

As mentioned above, adventures are reserved for the Wardens for a period of no less than four months. The adventures are then made available to convention organizers for another six months. After this time, Mind Storm Labs will make a determination about the release of each adventure. Some may be released for free to the general public for download, while others may be retired permanently or reserved for special publishing. Current adventures available for download may be obtained on the Products page.
