Love the setting. Love the rule set, even if it is super crunchy. But, when is new stuff coming out?

I mean the forums are still up and the main page is as well, so I assume that mean MSL is still in business, but come on, we need some news. Good or bad, we’re grown ups we can take it.

Virtual/Augmented Reality

For those that are willing to tackle this, I have several questions regarding virtual/augmented reality?

1) What distinguishes virtual from augmented reality?
2) Is this reality handled in a similar fashion to the virtual world found in the Matrix movies?
3) Is question 2 ultimately the GM’s decision on how handle the virtual world?

I ask because the virtual world will factor heavily in my next campaign and I want to understand it well enough that I can answer any player questions and handle any curve balls (wanting to be a virtual god) the players will throw at me.

~ Tyl

Earl the Grey

The streets are deceptively sleepy at night. Casual inspection shows the occasional street urchin and a few homeless scavenging for anything to help them survive the next 24 hours. However, the dark corners of this fair city pulsate to their own subdued heartbeat, and there is activity aplenty if you know where to look. There is no long term planning when you live on the streets, it’s all about lasting another night and getting out of sight before the day begins so you don’t offend the delicate sensibilities of the day walkers. Don’t get me wrong, the day walkers are not a direct threat to the night walkers, they just get distraught when coming face to face with the seedy underbelly of what their precious “city” looks like when the lights go out. And the threat they pose is by calling in the authorities, those who enforce some arbitrary rules placed on society… without really understanding society at it’s core.

I walk that thin grey line between the day and the night. I see the hustle and bustle of the daytime society. I am part of that “scene” and I interact with those who only see the city in it’s bright moments; when the sun shines, the towers gleam and the people walk about in their finery. Here, in this world, I am Konrad Killian, the guy you come to when you need something found or something done in a less than savory manner.

At night, and in the dark corners of the day, I am called Earl the Grey. A street name that conjures images of a ghostly character who navigates the questionable portions of the city. Blending, moving, disappearing as needed. The grey, not part of the day or the night, but the twilight glimmer of hope that joins both worlds.

Welcome to Alpha Omega my friends, let me be your guide to things both fantastical and unimaginable.

Forgive me if i missed it (it’s late here and we’re finishing up the Character Creation process), but i cannot seem to find any flamethrower ammunition. If this is incorrect, could someone direct me to said fuel? Thank you.

Field Ranks

I did a search of the forums but came up with no clear answer. According to the book, you need 10 challenging uses of a Field’s Skills before you can buy ranks in it. This has the side effect of making all Field training time and Trust free. Is this the intention, or is the discount only applied to challenging uses over the minimum of 10?

Obsidian Portal Dynamic Sheet

For those of you using Obsidian Portal, I’ve cooked up a dynamic character sheet using their API. It’s strictly data-entry with some simple calculations and lookups (dice pools, movement rates, etc). You can see a sample here.

It’s missing the Grigori state shifting right now, but that’s in the works for the next version. Let me know what you think.

Looking for Game

Ok, so I’m not sure where to put this, so any admin or moderator feel free to move it.

I LOVE Alpha Omega. Only problem is there arnt many people, if at all in the CHicago area that I know of who share my love for the game. Infact many of my friends look at it and cringe. I’m trying to change that, but until then just so I can play I was wondering about any online games, or if anyone in the Chicago area who runs a game would be willing to accept another player in their group.

I love playing the Annunaki, and so I thought i’d ask around to see if anyone met those two criteria.

Sincerely

Vehicles and Damage

So, the other day, my group sat down for a while, and did a mission in our current campaign. Said mission consisted of escorting a cargo caravan, with a Scarab in the lead. Of course, the caravan was attacked, but this encounter brought up a lot of questions. The attackers were using shotguns, for the most part, and within a couple rounds, basically destroyed the Scarab, which is supposed to be a heavily armored vehicle. Since it was wiped out so fast, we thought that, perhaps, we misunderstood the mechanics, and went back to re-read. Therein, lies the real question.

Basically, the vehicles have two sets of health: The armor, and the chassis. It is stated that if any one side of the chassis’ SI is reduced to zero, the vehicle ceases to operate. It is also stated that ‘once the armor is destroyed, the chassis begins to take damage.’ The problem is, the armor stats have both Damage Thresholds, and Damage Resistance, which we know how to deal with very well, on personal armor. Basically, we started out treating them much the same, where if the damage exceeded the armor’s threshold, it went through to the chassis. However, this ended in the front end of the Scarab having 7 SI left in its chassis, while the armor was still at 60. One more average shot would have done it in, and the mission would have been failed. I pointed out, while looking at a few things, that the Power Armor, when played according to the above situation, was just a $300K jetpack, as one would only need to hit one face for around 20 damage, before the suit was rendered incapacitated. Thus, if this is truly how the mechanic works, regarding vehicles, then I fail to see why anyone would bother with them.

So, the question is: Were we actually using this mechanic correctly, or does the vehicle armor’s Damage Resistance basically work as a second threshold, or are we missing something entirely?

Explosives Skill

When would you make an Explosives check and what would the result tell you? I was reading through the book and it seems like another of the “deal damage” skills, but none of the explosives listed have a DR listed nor is there any information in the skill description to give me an idea. Is it just a roll against an arbitrary DR? Would a high roll result in more damage or more localized damage?

Enquiring minds want to know.
