So now I feel obligated to join the chat.
Way, way back in 1994 (I have gotten old) when I first started working on what’s now AO, the Seraph and Ophanum were very much inspired by ancient astronaut theory, most of which revolves around the idea that humans were in fact created, or at least shaped in a very fundamental sense, by aliens. I always thought that was an interesting idea but never gave it much more thought. How could you answer that or why would it even matter were the mental excuses for not exploring it further. The idea that ancient aliens had played a role in shaping human cultures was much more intriguing to me and I think that focus comes through, at least a little more, in the core book. There are some hints if you look at the dynamic, admittedly not yet deeply explored, between the Evolutionary species and humans. Would the creators hide from their creations? Is there something else, even greater than the Seraph and Ophanum, out there waiting to return? Or, have the creations simply surpassed their creators? Those are questions I hope readers and players explore on their own in their games and in places like the forums.
We haven’t committed to overtly answering this in a publication yet; it seems a little like jumping the shark or being in Copperfield’s crew and knowing how it all works in AO terms right now.
