Are there any guidelines on creating characters for the GenCon 2009 scenarios (Specifically, Gamma Discovery, since thats the one I am playing).
Or better yet, are the pregens available for viewing?
Cant wait to see you guys there, and get my filthy little mits on The Encountered

If you don’t have a character yet and don’t have the time - don’t worry! We have plenty of pregenerated characters for you to choose from! All you need to do is bring your dice and event ticket (or generics) and come find us!
If you wish to create your own character for the managed campaign scenarios, here are the rules:
1) Buy a copy of Alpha Omega core rulebook
2) Create a character
Yep! That’s it - no special rules, no exclusions - we’re all big boys and girls here and we’re not going to babysit you like they do in some other game systems/campaigns. The only note is that we only use the core rules during the games - no optional rules - that way, we’re all on the same page. If it is published as official material, you can use it!
In the future, if you add anything to your character as far as gear, cyberware, etc, you will need to have the book available for the GM in order to adjudicate that item.
Also, keep in mind that the goal of the managed campaign is storytelling and the overall development of your character - some adventures may require your character to leave behind certain items in the interest of storytelling, game balance, or fairness to other players and their characters. If the GM asks you to leave the missile launcher at home for this or that adventure, please do not cry. We will accomodate you from time to time with opportunities to go "full bore" with any of your devastating toys.
Now, as to address your "specifically, Gamma Discovery" - my guidelines would be to make sure you have high Discipline, and try not to be afraid of things that go *bump* in the night!!! AAAHHAAAAAAHHAHHAAAAAHHAAAA!!!! (/vincent price evil laugh.mp3) <!—s;)—>{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_wink.gif<!—s;)—>

Hey Rich - you are fast, I just told you about this post!!!!
Hi e4Mafia,
I am bringing my 500CDP Gregori state-shifter. I think that if you stick to the 500CDP starting character you should fare just fine in any of the adventures. There are some great pre-gens though that are a lot of fun to play. I can post a list of the race/type information tonight.
Edit for correction: I know what the pre-gens were for Origins and 2 of those GM’s will be at GenCon. But I do not know what Rich is using for pre-gens at Gen Con and he is in charge there.

The quick answer is that the Wardens will be putting together about two dozen pregen characters that will eventually be posted online - part of these are the stock characters that are used for the initial demo adventures - Guard Duty and The World is Shaking - both of which are running at Gencon. Another demo adventure, Princes, Pirates & Paupers also has a set of pregenerated characters, but they are designed specifically for that adventure and do not really align with the managed campaign.

I should also say that as a reminder, if you play an adventure with a pregenerated character, you have two options:
1) keep playing that character - you’ve already given him a name to make him/her "yours", so just keep pluggin’ !
2) create your own character after you get home from the convention or gaming event where you played with the pregen. You get to transfer all CDP, Trust, gear, and any other special rewards to your new character just as if you played that character at the convention…
in other words, you have nothing to lose, and everything to gain by playing Alpha Omega! Accept no substitutes!

I am so FRICKIN jazzed up about this. Bought the AO core last year at Gencon, but nobody in my group wants to play. Im the defacto GM, but I cant have a complete mutiny on my hands and expect it to go well. I’m hoping that my experience at the Con will go a long ways toward getting the others exited to at the least give it a try.
My character idea was a techie/hacker type that does some electrical themed wielding. Its the fluff explanation of why he is so good at computers and gadgets. Of course an electricity based sidearm would also make a nice completion to the theme.
Again, thank you to the Wardens for running these. I’ll be the guy at the table who is so giddy to play he cant stop smiling.

Hi Bob - from experience you won’t be the only giddy one.
None of the pre-gens that I know of have that kind of slant, but I don’t know all of them. Making your own character is a lot of fun too. It is totally up to you. If you want some help with your character before your game feel free to drop by the Mind Storm Labs booth (1507) and ask for either Christopher or Jennifer - if they don’t know where we are you can leave a message and one of us would be happy to help you out. Actually I am sure that any of the Wardens would be happy to help you.
Which game slot are you playing AO in? Are you able to fit in any more sessions? All of the stories have a common thread and you would not want to miss out any of the plot!

I’m glad someone asked this question, since my intent logging in today was to determine the parameters for GenCon event character creation.
A buddy and I both bought the Core Rulebook during last year’s convention, but our group is in the midst of another campaign and we haven’t been able to shift into AO just yet. The opportunity to play next week is exciting in and of itself, but making your own PC is even better.
Thanks also for the head’s up on the Gamma Discovery game…I’m also scheduled to play in one of those sessions. I look forward to seeing/meeting some of you in Indy!

mmm Wish I could. Let me see what sessions are open. I’d hate to cancel any other event on my pals, but hey, I HAVE been patiently waiting a year to play this game.
Is there a ‘preferred order’ to doing the different sessions?

The preferred order of games is:
Game 1 Alpha Initiative
Game 2 Beta Challenge
Game 3 Gama Discovery
Game 4 Delta Event
Game 5 Epsilon Gambit
However, none of the games are dependent on having played any of the others. The whole point is to have fun, AO is not meant to tie players down (some of the NPC’s on the other hand….)

Any chance you might post those Characters anyways? I’d like to see some examples, as a reference for making my own. Thanks!

A couple of notes…
Adventures at Gencon: We are running three different types of adventures at Gencon - the schedule is posted elsewhere on the boards. Guard Duty is a two-hour demo event. The player characters are slightly stripped down to concentrate on the key features of learning the game and cannot be used in regular events. The World is Shaking is a four-hour demo event that is also meant to bring players into the game - it is a stand alone adventure and is only being offered one time during the convention, so if you need to schedule anything, I would try to make that one (I’m also the one running it - I like Mountain Dew…). The player characters are the same as the ones used for Guard Duty, but are the legal 500pt based characters. These are also the stock pregen characters that will be offered up for use with the third group of adventures which are the first in the managed campaign called Alpha Omega: Evolutions. They are linked together by a story arc and help set the tone and welcome players to Alpha Omega, showcasing various aspects of the game-verse. While you can play them in any order, the previous post has them in the suggested order - really, Epsilon Gambit gives everything away, so if you play that first, the rest is not much of a mystery - as with my previous postings, you as the player will just need to roll (role) with it and come up with your own time paradox justifications when playing…
Characters: Unfortunately, they are still in layout as we are finishing up preparations for the convention - we will have them at the con and will be able to post them afterwards. If you’re just looking for ideas, you might want to check out Milk Run - you can download just the PCs for free from the MSL website. I can say specifically that at this time, there are no lightning guns in the game…there are lasers, however, which may be close enough for you…

So….I didnt get a chance to play in anything except the 1 game <!—s:(—>{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_sad.gif<!—s:(—>
But, it was a blast. I cant wait to browbeat my players into giving the system a go.
I was wondering..I believe the DM for my event Gamma Discovery, was either the spouse or boyfriend of a certain very devious (But nice) lady that I played in the NDSM Wednesday night game with. Was wondering if they are frequent posters here?
Neatest part about Gencon this year for me, was repeatedly running into people I had played games with. Made the Con seem that much smaller and personal. Seemed like I had a new friend everywhere I looked. Thanks to everyone for coming out, and hosting the games!

Yes, that was possible - I will let them speak for themselves, but yes both of them are on the boards here…
Glad you enjoyed the adventure!

Hi Bob,
I am gathering that you played in my husband Christopher’s game, he is not on the forums very often but has promised to be more of a presence and start posting some of his short AO stories.
I am on the forums a couple times a week and will be more so since I have got more of the rules and system down pat. Although, I did make a few errors when running the combat demos. Oh well, I will have to make a separate post to correct that.
I am glad you liked your AO game - I really love the setting and am happy that my regular group has agreed to play for awhile. They think that it was their idea <!—s;)—>{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_wink.gif<!—s;)—>
Regards,
Jennifer

It’s been a while, but I have to ask, will the characters (and possibly the adventures themselves) for the Gencon scenarios ever be released? I was one of the players in the Saturday night Gamma Discovery game, and had a blast (I was the bioengineered who walked around hitting things with a wrench). However I’ve read up more on the setting and the races and I’m awfully curious what everybody was.
