Hello everyone,

I have some questions concerning character creation for a an anunnaki character.

1.Anunnaki characters start with Ascension Lvl.1 without needing the prequisits. The prequisit for Asc.Lvl. 1 is a physis value of 17, and you have to pay 100 CDP for it. Do anunnaki characters get the Lvl.1 of ascension for free or do they have to pay 100 CDP anyway(Cause prequisit is “only” a physis value of 17)?

2. At the race description of anunnaki, it is said, that they get the bonus ultralight vision. But chapter 8.14, where Ascension can be found, says, that the bonus is low-light-vision, and not ultralight vision. Which one is correct? Or does a anunnaki character gets both, ultra and low-light vision? Or ist is it just a errata, and low-light vision was meant, but ultralight vision was written instaed of low-light vision?

I would have found it helpfull, if in the race description, the bonuses gained from Ascension Lvl.1 would be marked/sigend as such, that would avoid confusing questions like if the character gets some of the bonuses two times, one time because it is written in the description and one times because of from Ascension Lvl.1.

1. Well, if you take a look, the base quality scores for an anunnaki average out to 17 - therefore the Physis is a 17.  This meets the requirements for AL1.  They get it for free - do not pay the 100 CDP.  Note:  this is clearly stated in the chart, that they receive the abilities / ascension at no cost.  More importantly, you CANNOT stray from the requirements.  This means if you lower a Quality Score below the base, you will have to increase something else in order to maintain your Physis of 17.  All scores have to remain within 5 of the Physis, so realistically, the “error” is that you can drop to a minimum of 7 - it should be 12.

2.  Correct, their RACE gives them Ultralight Vision.  The fact that they are ALSO ASCENDED grants them Low Light Vision.  They get both.

3.  There are no bonuses gained from Ascension listed in the race description, so where are you getting the confusion of overlapping bonuses? (unless you were basing this on the vision deviations, which was cleared up in #2)  The racial bonuses for the Anunnaki are outlined on the chart, then you turn to Ascension and add those listed for Level 1.  This is the same for the other races with this benefit.

First, thanks for the answers.

This is quite easy. If you look on the chart, it say for example: bonus ability: light sleeper. Ascension lvl1. says: bonus ability: light sleeper. Need another one? Chart says: bonus genetic deviation: Any 1 Body System Level, asc.lvl. 1 says:bonus gen.dev.: any 1 body sys.lvl. So in this case you could think of, that the character gains two body system levels, one from the chart, and one from asc.lvl.1. The same hereby with wielding: chart says: 3 ranks either in alpha or omega, and asc.lvl.1 says: 3 ranks either in alpha or omega (so that you could think of that the character gets a total of six ranks to distribute among alpha or omega -ok wouldn’t work, because of field and skill limits of the anunnaki).

If the chart has to be read like this, that all, what comes below that anunnaki get asc.lvl.1 for free, is just what asc.lvl1.includes, it would be clear, but that isn’t the case just in fact of the thing with ultralight and low-ligt vision as bonus abilities. Or has someone just forgotten to list the bonus of low-light vision in the chart? I mean most of the other bonuses anunnaki gain as race are listed in asc.lvl. 1, too. I think, that is what confusing me.

For what it’s worth, isn’t Ultravision just a combo of lowlight and infra visions?

Even though low light would be added by ascension level 1, it’s redundant so wouldn’t need to be listed since UV is part of the species.

I agree with Saint, the bonuses on the Anunnaki chart do not clearly specify which are racial bonuses and which are bonuses from ascension. After all, the racial bonus of ultravison is listed on the chart, but lowlight is not, so one can infer that ascension bonuses are not listed. So seeing that there is a body level adjustment on the chart, and another body level adjustment in the ascension section, one can infer that the anunnaki begins play with 2 deviations. BUt that same logic does not carry over tot he wielding, whereas Saint said, the bonuses from both sections would equal a Source bonus of 6. Thus the confusion.

It would help if all bonuses from the Ascension be properly marked, or if as MSL-CD says, the bonuses are not on the chart, then the Errata should remove Wielding bonuses from the chart and refer to the Ascension section of the book for the free wielding bonuses granted the anunnaki.

OK, I’m going to have to say I’m a little confused…

First off, Anunnaki get Ultravision as a genetic deviation.  They ALSO get Low Light Vision for Ascended Level 1.  Since Ultravision includes the abilities of Low Light Vision, this really is a non issue.  Other races that get Ascension Level 1 for free, or those that purchase it later on, may not have any vision mods and so get the LLV from the Ascension.  If you happen to have LLV as a bonus or purchase it as a deviation, and then get Ascension, you don’t get it a second time - you already have it…suck it up.

I see nowhere on the Anunnaki that they receive Light Sleeper as a bonus/free Ability - this does not conflict.  Even if it did, once again, not all races get it that also get Ascension, so it is just a redundant ability.

Any 1 Body System Level - ditto - what chart are you looking at??  Nowhere on the Anunnaki do I see this.  Now, in this case, *IF* the Anunnaki chart says you get a 1 Body System Level, and Ascension gets 1 Body System Level, then you DO get both - there’s nothing that says they have to be the same Body System.  You could take two different systems.

Now, with Wielding:
The chart for the Anunnaki states that they can take Spiritual Wielding.  You don’t HAVE to take it, it is NOT a requirement.  Ascended however, RECEIVE Spiritual Wielding.  So, if you are playing Anunnaki, you could certainly save points by not taking any Wielding for the race, but receiving it for the Ascension.  So I’ll give you this one, it id redundant to put “Anunnaki can access Innate and Spiritual Wielding” when it should say just “Anunnaki can access Innate Wielding” and “Due to Ascension, Anunnaki receive Spiritual Wielding for no cost”  You would then have to choose Alpha or Omega Sources, just as with Ascension, and can still only choose one or the other, not both (so you can’t conflict with purchasing Alpha and getting Omega for Ascension).  As for the ranks, it states that “Anunnaki can purchase up to Rank 4 for any Source or Intention during Character Creation” (where do you see 3??).  For Ascension, you RECEIVE 3 Ranks in the Source and 3 Ranks to distribute among Intentions.  So, you could start the game with up to 4 Ranks in Alpha or Omega, and up to 4 in a single Intention if you sank everything into that one intention (1 purchased, plus 3 received). As for Field and Skill limitations for the Anunnaki, that doesn’t matter - these are Wielding Source and Intentions, they have nothing to do with Skills - that is a separate part of the chart.  All of this combining of Source and Intention ranks is clearly (I feel) laid out in the character example in Section 6.10.2

Even though low light would be added by ascension level 1, it’s redundant so wouldn’t need to be listed since UV is part of the species.

As I stated above - you guys are only looking at Anunnaki as one example, and then adding the Ascension as if they were the only ones that ever get these powers.  The Low Light Vision in the Ascension powers is there as a benefit for those other races that choose to purchase Ascension later on and may be thankful to receive LLV among their newfound abilities.  If they already have LLV, then they don’t realize that benefit again, nor do they receive any CDP refund.

I can only assume that all this confusion is coming from the CHARACTER SAMPLE at the end of the section, as the abilities of the RACE and ASCENSION are combined together.  If that is the cause of your confusion, then I’ll grant you that the example might benefit from the terms “(from Ascension)” after the last three items.  In the example in the Wielding section (6.10), it should say “From the Ascended Level 1 abilities which she receives for free based on the Anunnaki Species description, ...”

I am sorry, it was late at night and I was doing things from memory. The chart is correct and I am wrong. The only deviation specifically mentioned for Anunnaki is Ultravision, which is racial and trumps the Ascension ability of low light. And because I was going from memory, I had the number 3 from the Innate starting bonuses, not caps.

MSL-CD, you just answered a question on this in the errata section.
I asked if the bonuses from ascension were already accounted for in the racial bonuses listing, and you said Yes.

Nothing has changed - the other thread discussed getting Ascension for free for an Anunnaki.  You get the abilities for free and do not have to pay a CDP cost.

If you mean that all the abilities of being Ascended are also listed under the species that get it for free, then no - I misunderstood you - the abilities are NOT listed twice.  If they are (such as the Nephilim having Low Light Vision) then that means that specific species already gets that, and you obviously don’t get LLV twice.

I have corrected my post in the other thread to reflect this.

Thanks MSL-CD, sorry for adding to the confusion by zombie posting in the middle of the night.
