What is up with the Dice Sets?

Yeah, we -have- to get our RPG’s from RPG stores here. So dice can get "pricey" for the simple fact that they’re the only supply for our demand. A straight "black on white 6 die set" costs 8 dollars (after taxes, boo Canada).  So you can see where it could be intimidating to have to buy 36 dice (8 x 6 = 46 dollars :O I say x6 because of the fact that the basic 6 die set has only one of each die needed for AO). Of course you can find dice for cheap online, but even then the cost after shipping is kind of silly (maybe two dollars of savings).

If new players can get along with no more than a basic dice set at first, then that’ll be great, it’ll definitely make getting new players easier. This way if they get hooked and want to invest more of themselves into it and get the extra dice, they would have had the option to save some cash instead of going balls to the wall right away then finding out they didn’t like it and have all these dice lol.

(Nobody loves a d4, especially when you step on it.) Tri-Stat dX did that scaling thing with dice as well, if memory serves me correctly.

Lol, someone else that calls em caltrops!

I’m just worried about finding new players outside of the KeyCon (our yearly nerd/ geek convention). I have D&D friends, but they don’t have gobs of dice like I do, getting them to hop aboard might be a bit more difficult than it should be if they need to drop coin on a ton of dice they wouldn’t regularly ever need.

I made myself a rather serviceable dice bag I hand sewed and riveted using the leg of an old pair of jeans.  II am rather proud of that actually.  <!—s:)—>{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_smile.gif<!—s:)—>[/quote:2656f]

My girlfriend did that for me as well.  Took an old pair of jeans that I loved, but were beginning to get too many holes, and she made a dice bag out of them.  Works quite nicely, though I still need to fill the other 4/5ths of the bag.

I actually like the idea of requiring a lot of dice to play, not because of the number crunching (I hate it, actually), but it means most, if not all of my dice get used.  I doubt dice will be a problem for me when getting players, as most people I know have a lot of dice, mainly d6s because a few used to play Shadowrun.  Trying to get them to play something new will be the hard part, most prefer D&D, Mutants & Masterminds, or Warhammer.

Yeah,  I have a hard time pushing new games on my players.  AO is going to be up their alley,  though.  Several of them like PA settings,  and the "Angel/Devil" connection fits not only with what they’re into,  but also what we’ve individually been working on.

I would like to introduce an idea into the mix here.

I call it ‘Reconstructica’.  It’s what happens after Post Apocalyptic.

Basically, if a few hundred years have gone by and there are governments, stable societies, infrastructures and a semblance of social and civil services again I call it Reconstructica.

To me, Mad Max is true Post Apocalypse.  There ain’t nuthin around but stripped down cars and weird folk.  There ain’t nuthin worth fighting for but gasoline etc.

Just some thoughts.
