My lovely little Necrosi gal lost her left arm in an unfortunate accident, i.e. another team member accidentally cut it off rolleyes
Now she has a brand new cybernetic arm, payed for by previously mentioned team member, of course cool grin
In the book it said that it was covered with cybernetic skin, if I remember correctly, and that got me wondering.
Does the skin on this arm still have the abilities gained by the integumentary system?

Unless it is skin grown from your character I would say no. But I don’t know what cybernetic skin is.

I would say no as well.  But why would you need it to?  You certainly aren’t going to absorb food and water into your mechanical arm, and it doesn’t need to be sheltered all that much from heat or cold…

I was rather thinking about the ability to adsorb small items through your skin. Though it’s true that it doesn’t matter too much but I just found myself wondering.
Now it also seems as if I have another thing to make the player who cut my arm off feel guilty about, maybe I can make him buy something else for me as well cool grin

Well, that doesn’t stop you from absorbing things into other parts of your body…personally I always envisioned that ability as being used like a kangaroo pouch, ie in the abdominal area.  You wouldn’t be able to store anything much in your arm - there has to be somewhere for it to go - the arm doesn’t have much “squishy” area to move aside and/or compress to make room for the foreign material, except for maybe a datachip or such.  Even so, anything of value like that I’d want to put in a “belly pouch” as you can cover it a lot easier with armor!

However, having an artificial arm does give you a greater benefit for hiding objects, as you can have the arm designed with such “hiding pockets”.  You can even install devices into an arm, so the tradeoff might be worth it…also, since you now have a mechanical arm, it would be easier to hide such small items as datachips.  With your original arm, it could be scanned up close and the chip possibly detected.  With the artificial arm, it is certainly made of metal and circuitry, which would tend to provide “cammoflague” for the chip.  Plus, even with a natural looking cyberskin, you can get a fake medical certificate for your prostetic arm and not draw attention from all but the most stricktest of security checkpoints.

The possibility of hiding pockets is mostly why I’m wondering, it could make for some very sneaky pickpocketing and general hiding of stuff. However, our GM seems to either have forgotten about the issue or just assumed my skin is as usual as he didn’t object to me using my skin skills during yesterday’s session grin

maybe he just assumed you were placing it somewhere else…you don’t lose the ability except for that arm…

I can envison the skin allowing the item to be picked up and placed int he arm… if there is room.
I.e. if you character picked up a small dagger and placed in that are to be held between the skin and mechanical arm (right under the skin) then ok.
But since you cannot rearrange the mechanical parts of the arm, you are limited in space.

Though I must admit, that deviation was always odd to me.
Interesting, to be sure, but it can definately be abused smile

Just slice open the fake skin and slide in what you want, you can always get it fixed later.

Or do the reverse ... you could have a hidden compartment in a cybernetic arm and if you need what is in there then tear the skin to get it out.

Well, as for the skin, I envison that it grown from the characters DNA to be a match to the existing skin.
So I don’t have an issue with it have the ability, just that the structure underneath should also be acommodating.
So yeah, build in a secret compartment that is shielded from x-rays and such, then keep your street drugs in the arm.
Makes it hard for the cops to search for your contraband.

I’d say no to the integumentary storage, since you could get a cybernetic storage compartment.

Also, keep in mind that you can only store 6.1 cubic inches.  That is not very much.  That’s like a 6 inch snickers bar or something.  Not very big.
